The Sony Ericsson K850i is another step forward for Sony Ericsson and the Cyber-shot™ brand, combining a 5 megapixel camera with many of the excellent features already seen on the K810. The Sony Ericsson K850i features improvements to the camera interface and a new media browser that allows pictures to easily be rotated and viewed. Images move from portrait to landscape simply by turning the phone, the in built accelerometer sensing movement and adjusting the screen to suit.
The 5 megapixel camera is supported by a xenon flash and 16x digital zoom. The lens cover is now automated and slides open upon activation. Users will find a host of compact camera options to assist with taking varied shots and to improve quality in particular situations. BestPic™ even allows 9 shots to be taken in quick succession so you can then pick the best ones. Sharing your images couldn't be easier too, the Sony Ericsson K850i gives owners their own blog site to upload to, and printing via PictBridge avoids using your PC and lets you send your favorite photo directly to a printer.

Perhaps the most important addition is the move to HSDPA support, making this the first 3G and EDGE enabled handset Sony Ericsson have produced, and offering full network support in the process. The Sony Ericsson K850i Cyber-shot features a second video calls camera for video conferencing and push email for immediate message delivery over the high speed 3G network.

Moving files to and from the K850i can be done via Bluetooth, USB connection and the M2 memory card slot. A 512mb card is included in the box. Interestingly Sony Ericsson have decided to offer a dual card support slot on the K850i which can host not only the M2 standard but also microSD too.
The Bluetooth profile supports stereo audio to enable wire free listening of the music player or FM radio. All these options add a little to the weight but the size remains the same as the K810.

The Sony Ericsson K850i offers a neat solution to navigation with the keys positioned around the number 2 and 5 keys to allow a larger screen to be used. The screen size has grown to a 2.2 inch TFT display and benefits from touch sensitive hot keys to select menu options. The overall design is functional but certainly individual with colour accents down both sides of the handset and a well spaced keypad layout.
