The Nokia N82 sets a new standard in what to expect from Nokia smartphones. Offering many of the same features as the N95 but in a bar shaped device updated to accommodate an improved flash, Nokia describe the N82 as being the latest multimedia computer optimized for photography, navigation and internet connectivity.

With a 5-megapixel camera, Xenon flash and Carl Zeiss optics, Nokia claims the N82 delivers remarkably vivid photographs, even in low-light conditions, often a complaint with many previous camera phones. Moving images are captured at 30 frames per second in VGA resolution and promise DVD-like quality playback. It is possible to build multimedia slide shows with pictures and music that can be viewed either on the 2.4 inch 16 million colour display or on any television screen, using the devices TV-out socket. Storage of media can be shared between the 100MB internal memory or a removable microSD card.

A-GPS and pre installed Nokia Maps will offer a useful navigation solution while on the move. Map excerpts and routes can be sent to friends by MMS or users can save map screen shots to the gallery. There is also be the prospect of a voice guided subscription service to further enhance the route finding capability of the N82.

Wireless connectivity of the Nokia N82 is offered in a number of formats. Network connection can be via HSDPA, 3G or EDGE offering download speeds of up to 3.6Mbps. The N82 contains a quad band antenna for roaming, Wi-Fi for web surfing and Bluetooth with A2DP profile for file sharing and audio.

The Nokia N82 comes with a new 3D multimedia menu interface and includes a motion sensor to allow the screen orientation to automatically change from portrait to landscape at the turn of the device.
